How much a power cut can impact your business

In June 2017, there was a power cut that affected an estimate of 63,000 properties in North Lancashire, and Edinburgh Airport had to delay flights within the same month due to a power-related issue. With more than 170,000 km of electricity cables to maintain, power cuts will sometimes happen. But how much can they affect businesses?

Selecting compressed air purification

The international standard for compressed air quality, ISO 8573:2010, is the primary documentation to facilitate compressed air systems component selection, design and performance measures. Hi-line Industries, UK manufacturer of high-quality compressed air purification equipment reports it has been working closely with the British Compressed Air Society to produce a best practice guide for the filtration and drying of compressed air.

Handling hazardous waste as a business

Reconomy says when dealing with hazardous waste in your business, no matter the type, then it’s important that you implement an effective waste management plan to tackle any problems that could occur and can cause unpleasant damage to your company. It’s recommended that all companies avoid this, especially when the waste can be harmful to the environment as well as its employees.

Gas plant turns to drainage specialist over pipe blockage concern

A CCTV camera system designed for surveying sewers has been put to a new use - investigating concerns about a pipe blockage at a gas plant.

The importance of mechanical testing

Mechanical testing can often be deemed as unnecessary, costly and time consuming and, in today’s world of vast computer modelling and simulation power, it can be hard to argue against this. To cut costs, companies may decide to reduce time and budget spent on testing. However, unanticipated failures of in-service products will have far greater cost and time implications.

Multi-ship contract

Vroon Offshore Services Aberdeen has been awarded a long-term contract with BP. Under the multi-million pound contract, Vroon Offshore will provide emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRVs) to support BP’s on-going and future operations in the North Sea and West of Shetland. The contract is for two years with the option to extend to five.

Combating RTD failure due to strong vibrations

ENDRESS+HAUSER says its iTherm StrongSens sensor cuts replacement costs and improves safety. The company says processes with high vibrations caused by pumps, compressors and turbines, for example, can often lead to premature failure of temperature sensors and increased operational costs as sensors need to be replaced more frequently and more worryingly, unreliable temperature monitoring on rotating parts (such as bearings) can lead to a safety risk through overheating of equipment.

Webtool takes a lead at Subsea Expo 2018

Hydraulic cutting tools and systems specialist, Webtool, will exhibit a wide range of high performance, subsea and maritime cutting tools, together with the industry leading Webtool cable gripper, at Subsea Expo 2018 on stand 124.

PAWP covers an area of around 14km2 and comprises of 60 wind turbines that are connected by eight in-field cable strings that converge at the central offshore high voltage station.

Measuring oil and water inflow

In any deep water field development it is important to monitor oil and water production from all wells in order to manage fluid movement and maximise hydrocarbon output. The use of Smart Tracers integrated into a lower completion, alongside the use of waterflood tracers, can provide a number of advantages over traditional oil and gas inflow measurement technologies, often at a fraction of the cost.
